About Larsen McDowell
As a young artist, Larsen McDowell fell in love with the imagery of children's book, and she hoped to one day become an illustrator.
While attending college in New Orleans, Larsen McDowell studied art history and painting, working primarily with oils. She eventually left the south and returned to New York to pursue a career in fashion. With her art now confined to a small desk in her New York City apartment, Larsen traded in her oil paints for watercolors and started doing small commissions from her living room. After time spent working at both Tory Burch and Tabitha Simmons, Larsen left the industry and began painting full time.
Though Larsen McDowell's art took a different direction, it is still influenced by the delight and wonder of storybooks. Larsen describes her own painting style as colorful, imperfect and personal.
Larsen McDowell creates custom, made-to-order paintings, prints, stationary and event invitations. She has worked for brands such as Carolina Herrera, Matches Fashion, Tory Burch, Cece Dupraz, Neely & Chloe, Origins, J. Mclaughlin and Anthropologie. Her work has been published in Tory Burch: In Color, Brides Magazine and Goop.com.
