About Matthew William Photography
I grew up in the real Hollywood, also known as Burbank, Ca. , where i spent most of my high school years playing baritone saxophone in band, though I pursued my real passion of fine art outside of academia by painting and submitting work to local art contests. I began photographing when my father gave me a Canon AE-1. After a couple decades of photographing as a hobby, I decided to take the plunge and add Photography as a second major while deep into my Drawing and Painting major. After spending too many years in undergrad, I finally graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Fine Art in Photography as well as Drawing and Painting. For a number of years after college, I worked full time as a gallery preparator and professional printmaker, all while exhibiting paintings in galleries throughout Southern California. One of the main reasons I began photographing weddings happened when I started the search for a photographer for my own wedding. This was one of the most difficult parts of wedding planning. I enjoyed photographing weddings more than I ever imagined. I have always and will always consider myself a fine artist, so I love experimenting and having fun with the images I shoot. I always look for opportunities to experiment. I like to give my clients a handful of fine art pieces that go beyond the typical wedding images. I draw inspiration mostly from contemporary painters by going to museums and following art blogs. I will see a color-blocked painting and try that with a wedding image or see an abstract painting and use the color scheme. I will look at hundreds of paintings and see one where I think, 'I want to try that!' I made it this far in photography because of the love and support of my amazingly beautiful wife, Alexandra. I am also incredibly thankful for my new inspiration, our son Hudson, born January 2016. -Matthew
