About Allison Barrett Photogrpahy
Why ABP?
Not only are you receiving beautiful wedding day images, but you’ll enjoy the experience of capturing them too. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard peoples past trauma from other photographers, weather it be the awkward school photos or that horrible angle someone posted of you on Facebook 10 years ago that haunts you. My goal is to eliminate that anxiety and make you and your guests feel like I’m just another member of the party that happens to also be taking photos. Here’s how we do it. Upon meeting you, either at your engagement session, for a planning meeting or the day of your wedding, I immediately start feeling out your personality. I want to find the jokes that will make you laugh, the prompts that will bring out your inner child and the stories behind what makes you YOU. Once I have a better understanding on what works best for you, we are ready to craft your images together. I will give you prompts to best tell your story, only posing you when necessary. The Goal: Forget the camera is there. It's okay if we have to work through some awkward moments together to get you comfortable! No one you will see on my portfolio is a professional model, we are all just normal people ready to celebrate love.
Whats your experience level?
Let's start in the beginning. My father owned a print shop when I was growing up. I spent most of my school nights going to the shop, watching printing presses run and being dragged around with him to meet clients. This is where my admiration for owning your own business sparked. After Highschool in 2013, I really thought I wanted to be a veterinarian. I went to work for Marlborough Bird and animal hospital, one of the only vet offices in CT to accept exotic animals and wildlife. I assisted in surgeries, wild life rehab and many other unique experiences. Unfortunately, I never felt like this field filled my emotional cup. So I searched for a new path and took a leap of faith into my other passion, photography. I was professionally trained in photography and lighting at Hallmark Institute of Photography graduating in 2016. From there, I went to work for some of the best photographers I could find. I started with Kiva Sutton at Annandale Photography in Ct as an editor and quickly worked my way up to second photographer and then an associate photographer. I experienced about 100 weddings all over new England. While working with Kiva, I spent some time Photographing Movie sets with Synthetic Cinemas International. They filmed several lifetime and hallmark movies. On my few nights off, I was slinging drinks as a bartender since I love to be in movement. The service industry is no joke. I learned countless lessons in how to manage people with patience. I also grew a new palate for delicious craft drinks! In 2018 I decided to take a change of pace and worked for Billy Black, a world recognized Commercial Yacht Photographer. I learned a variety of new things, from working with luxury clients to what really happens in the commercial photography world. This job took me all over for travel, one of my favorites being Turkey.
In 2020 during the height of covid, I realized I was ready to take the leap and start focusing on my own personal business. That first year I grew my photography network in Rhode Island doing second and associate work which has led me to where I am today. I have found my passion, having photographed hundreds of weddings and cannot wait to see where it takes me next. Why am I telling you this long origin story? I feel like my experience is what sets me apart from other photographers. Weddings are not an ordinary photoshoot. There are details to be laid out, many different lighting obstacles, family/guests of all walks to communicate with and keep happy and my personal favorite, My couple to capture story telling imagery of. It really feels like the perfect storm of having a bartenders personality with the experience of a commercial and portrait photographer.
What I bring to your wedding day?
At least 2 camera bodies, a variety of lenses to capture the macro and micro moments, professional on camera and off camera lighting to keep all scenes looking fabulous, a few emergency kit items like scissors, pins, sewing kit, etc, clear umbrellas, a timeline and a list of everyone in your party. Who Are your Second photographers? Only The best I know. Seriously. I have formed beautiful friendships throughout the years working in Rhode Island which has given me an amazing community to choose from. All my Second photographers will have similar gear to myself and be ready to have fun with us. During the days I’m not photographing for myself, you’ll likely find me returning the second photographer favors to one of the lovely people in my circle.
Whats the process?
Step 1. The hello and availability check: The brand is Allison Barrett Photography because I am going to be your photographer. With that being said, I have limited availability and will need to make sure I can accommodate your date!
Step 2. The consultation: Lets chat! I am always happy to meet up for coffee or drinks if we have a chance to make it work, I love meeting you face to face! If our schedules don’t align or you're on a time crunch, the next best option is to schedule a call. Regardless, during our chat we will get to know each other, discuss the vibe you’re looking for and look at your timeline (no worries if its a super rough draft) and determine what coverage would best meet your vision.
Step 3. Booking: I am AMPED up at this point! To lock in your date, an $800 deposit is due at the time of contract signature. We lock you in and pick a date for an engagement session if you choose to proceed with that option as well!
Step 4. The in-between: During this chaotic planning period, I am always an email or text away to help you with any questions you may have. From vendor referrals to odd questions you thought of in the middle of the night, I am here to help to the best of my ability!
Step 5. Final Planning Call: About a month before your wedding, I will send you a questionnaire to fill out with some specific wedding details I might need to know. From there, we will have a final call 2-3 weeks out from your day. We will build your final timeline and make sure our coverage is still capturing everything you dreamed of, as well as build a shot list including your family & friends to capture during formal photos.
Step 6. THE DAY: Its finally here, your wedding day. During your wedding day, I do my best to be as blended into your friends and family as possible. I will share friendly conversation with your group while snapping photos, offer advice where needed as a wedding pro, and be ready to take social queues and blend into the scenes when an emotional moment is happening.
