About Robin Jolin
I believe the center of photography is light and trust. I need to have trust in my clients. My clients need to have trust in me. I find trust gives us the best imagery. When I’m photographing a wedding, I am constantly watching the light. I want to know where the light is brightest, where the light is darkest, and where I can use light to enhance the picture.
For me photographing a wedding or family is like a dance. We take a moment to meet and greet. Then we start dancing. The client’s job is to do their thing, whether it’s taking care of the children or hopping in the bridal gown, or enjoying a beautiful glass of wine. Their only job is to enjoy that moment. My job is to capture it with the best light and integrity. I’m watching the window light fill a room of beautiful people. I’m watching for a moment between the couple that no one expected. I’m watching because it’s my job to show the most beautiful side possible of my clients.
On a more personal note, I found photography when I was 16 in high school. I never turned back. Photography allows me to express myself and enjoy life in a way I never thought possible. I split my time between Oakland, California, and a small rural town in Eastern Oregon. In college, I was fascinated with black-and-white photography and the zone system. After college, I specialized in food photography and portraits. I spent 10 years photographing baby clothes for Gymboree, Janie and Jack, and Crazy 8 clothing companies. I started shooting weddings with my husband in 2010. Witnessing the joy in people's eyes at a wedding brings me alive. Weddings are my favorite thing to photograph.
