From a young age, it was apparent that Carlos had a knack for mechanics. So much so, that his 3rd grade teacher accused him of getting help from an adult on a school project constructing a truck from found pieces. His dream was to become a mechanic but his parents couldn’t afford schooling so he began working in construction which led him to a long welding career. He became certified as a metal structures technician in heavy duty repairs (in layman’s terms, he repaired and adapted transmissions for buses, trucks, bulldozers among other things). Over the years he’s had experience tiling, pouring concrete, framing, and detailing, all of which informs his multifaceted work today.

In 2011 Carlos met his wife Jenny while working at the SF Flower Mart. Jenny’s work as a florist brought Carlos into the wedding industry. It was there that they found collaborative creativity and a shared opportunity creating custom fabricated structures. And thus The Vessel began.
