Welcome to Wedding Day Countdown, a series where we ask friends and tastemakers for a peek inside what *actually* happened on their Big Day. From the morning of, to the final countdown, to the minute after, we’re bringing you an exclusive look at some of your favorite must-see weddings.
What happens when a celebrity stylist throws a three-day wedding after two years of pandemic-related postponements (with a pretty epic elopement to fiancé and restaurateur Mac Osborne along the way)? All of the fashion looks, including not one, not two, but three custom Prada ensembles for the wedding day alone. It also means a star-studded soirée with longtime clients-turned-friends like Lupita Nyong’o as a bridesmaid, and Common performing the ceremony exit song.
But in addition to ogling all of the fashions and design details (courtesy of Tracey Goldstein of Polka Dot Events and creative consultant Marcy Blum) of Micaela Erlanger’s glamorous Miami wedding at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, we wanted to know what the cameras may not have captured: Those intimate parts of the day amidst all the primping and posing and entertaining that made that two-year wait worth every minute.
We caught up with Micaela in her immediate post-wedding-glory to hear about all those in-between moments that made such a spectacular day equally sentimental.
1. The Night Before
Carats & Cake: Where did you spend the night before your wedding—and did you and your partner spend the night together?
Micaela Erlanger: Mac and I shared the presidential suite at the Mr. C hotel. We slept in different bedrooms the night before our wedding, which felt a little old school but oddly romantic.
2. The Morning Of
C&C: Did you do anything special in the morning to start the day off on the right foot, either by yourself, with Mac, or with your family and bridal party?
M.E.: On the day of the wedding, we got up around 7, had coffee and breakfast, and went for a walk to clear our minds before the big day. Mac left to get ready with his groomsmen at his dads' home and I got ready at the hotel with my bridesmaids. It was fun and kept me distracted from my nerves!
3. The In-Between Moments
C&C: What was one of the most special day-of moments leading up to the wedding?
M.E.: Being surrounded by friends and family after an isolating pandemic was more than I could have hoped for. It was just so unbelievably special. But there were so many other moments. From designing my dream gown with Prada to partnering with De Beers Forevermark to design a custom diamond Eternity Band, to having my dearest friends sing and serenade us, to the toasts that made us laugh, and cry. It was all so perfect.
4. The Final Countdown
C&C: Were there any memorable moments from the time between finishing photos and the beginning of the ceremony?
M.E.: A moment away with Mac to collect ourselves was an intimate and treasured moment. The first time my dad saw me in my dress was also a moment I will cherish forever.
5. The Minute After
C&C: What was the first thing you and Mac did after the ceremony?
M.E.: Mac and I gave Rashid (aka Common) a huge hug. Having him perform our recessional song was just amazing. Afterward, we immediately toasted with a glass of Ruinart.
6. The Grand Finale
C&C: What's the last thing you and Mac did before leaving the wedding festivities for the night?
M.E.: We ate some Tacos and danced our asses off before jumping into our getaway Bentley and heading home!
