Our site has been used before for a vintage indoor picnic-themed wedding, a classic pastel whimsical gender reveal party, and even a Scottish-Indian wedding celebration with kilts alongside henna! The jewel of the Enfield Shaker Community, the Great Stone Dwelling is home to the Dining Room, Meeting Room, and our 20 Guest Rooms. Built in 1837, the six-story Dwelling features authentic Shaker architecture and design. The exterior is comprised of intricate historic stonework and features over 150 windows. Clean, bright and welcoming, the build’s interior has classic Shaker style, featuring hardwood floors, many large windows with interior shutters, and Shaker peg rail. Its restored original Shaker interiors provides a unique architectural backdrop to your big day. The understated simplicity of the Shaker style throughout the Great Stone Dwelling makes for a classically beautiful look.
Meeting Room in the Great Stone Dwelling
The Meeting Room, located on the Great Stone Dwelling’s second floor, is our most popular reception space. It features large windows, rustic chandelier lighting, and lovely pine floors for dancing. Meeting Room rentals include tables, reproduction Shaker chairs, linens, and full place settings. The Meeting Room can accommodate up to 125 guests.
Dining Room in the Great Stone Dwelling
On the first floor of the Great Stone Dwelling, the Dining Room is the perfect setting for more intimate gatherings, including smaller wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and breakfasts with guests the morning after. The Dining Room may also be used as a spot for a cocktail hour. It features beautiful, dark-stained reproduction Enfield Dining Room tables and chairs that can accommodate up to 80 seated or 100 standing guests.
Guest Rooms in the Great Stone Dwelling
Make your wedding a weekend event! The Museum offers 20 Guest Rooms with 35 queen-size beds (total) on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Great Stone Dwelling. Each well-appointed room has original Shaker architecture, reproduction Shaker furniture, and a private bath. For couples who choose to have a reception at the Enfield Shaker Museum, an overnight stay in the Bridal Suite is complimentary.
The Stone Mill, the perfect venue for a rustic but elegant, shabby-chic barn styled wedding, features beautiful fieldstone-work walls inside and out, as well as exposed wooden beam work. Located across the road from the Great Stone Dwelling/Mary Keane Chapel and adjacent to a large field and picturesque hillside, it has hardwood floors and 21-foot-high ceilings with beautiful exposed wood beams. This building can accommodate a dining and dancing area for up to 100 guests, and makes a lovely ceremony or cocktail hour venue as well. It also offers an easy rain location for outdoor weddings in the lawns or fields adjacent to the Stone Mill.
The Mary Keane Chapel is an exceptionally unique gem nestled into the Shaker Village site, built by La Salette Catholic order in the late 1920s. The traditional architecture in this building features Italian pink marble and exquisite German stained glass. This is an awe-inspiring ceremony space and can accommodate up to 150 guests seated in the pews.
