While doing “first look photos” with your partner is a hotly-debated decision—Should your outfit be a surprise at the end of the aisle? Is taking pictures before the ceremony easier?—we’ve concluded that a special moment with dad is an absolute must. Imagine getting ready and having that epic ta-da! right before you start heading down the aisle. It’s a special minute or two with the man who raised you, and the pictures are pure perfection.

Real-life weddings have featured this trend time and time again, and we’re loving every iteration. The heartfelt hugs and yes, even a subtle tear-wipe, are simply the sweetest. Carving out even a few seconds with just you and your dad will create lasting memories and pictures you’ll look back on for years to come.

And dads-turned-grooms are getting in on it too! You’ll want to watch this one video of a groom and his tiny toddler, showing off her flower girl ensemble, over and over again.

So as you’re mapping out the shot list for your photographer, don’t forget about this special (not to mention, absolutely adorable) way to capture all of the emotions on your wedding day. We’re not gonna lie: These are tearjerkers. So, grab a tissue and prepare to see some of the greatest first looks with dads feeling all the feels.
