When it comes to creating a design plan for your wedding venue (or one you have your eye on), looking at examples of weddings that took place there can help you envision what your big day could look like—even if you don’t have the most vivid (or visual) imagination. That’s why we’ve launched One Venue, Three Ways, a series that highlights all the different ways that couples have utilized each space at some of our favorite wedding venues.

Tucked away in northern Virginia, just outside popular Charlottesville, lies Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, an idyllic oasis for couples planning a farm-to-table fête. From the instantly-recognizable hydrangea-lined pathway, to the chic granary, to the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains, the property is full of scenic backdrops for weddings and other events. And we haven’t even mentioned the rows upon rows of grape vines, providing the perfect spot to sneak away for some solo portraits with your partner, or twirl on the hillside.

But the best part is that no Pippin Hill wedding is like another. Owners Lynn Easton and Dean Porter Andrews—and of the world-renowned luxury hospitality company Easton Events—have worked in the industry for more than 20 years, and it shows with every Pippin Hill wedding hosted here. The farm and vineyards—part of the Monticello Wine Trail—accommodate practically every season, as reflected by the rotation of hues that the hydrangeas take on, among many other seasonal twists. It’s that sprawling landscape, versatile interiors, and overall charm that make Pippin Hill farm and vineyards one of the most iconic Virginia wedding venues, but we particularly love to see how different couples have made the space uniquely their own. From rustic soirées to black-tie bashes, and even a cottagecore theme, a Pippin Hill wedding can be just about any theme or color palette you may be dreaming of.

"We truly believe that wine and food experiences really transport you," says Andrews. "They're able to deliver really lasting memorie sand shared impressions, and we have that with people who come here for the tasting room experience, and obviously for weddings where people are creating memories for a lifetime."

We’ve hand-selected a few celebrations that truly wowed us, and put together some insights about how to make a Pippin Hill winery wedding true to you and your partner.

Outdoor Ceremonies on the Lawn

The property boasts two separate ceremony lawns: The Pippin Hill Vineyard Lawn is best for weddings with 140 guests or more, and the Main Lawn is perfectly suited for more intimate ceremonies with fewer than 140 guests. Both offer views of the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond (a top-notch feature among the best Virginia wedding venues), and set the stage for the most memorable outdoor ceremony possible.

Another pro: With an outdoor Pippin Hill Farm wedding, you don’t have to worry about sourcing power, and elegant white folding chairs are included with your booking. Of course couples can also rent other types of chairs that better-suit their theme, as evidenced by the natural wood chairs used for Charlotte and Treat's big day.

Custom Aisle Decor

Whether you’re drawn to elaborate arrangements on oversized podiums, or strands of greenery draped along the chairs, there are so many ways to decorate a ceremony aisle at Pippin Hill Farm. The connection to the surrounding nature is inspiration for other floral designs that make it look like flowers are literally sprouting from the ground, like Jenna and William's aisle entrance. The voluminous arrangements in low-profile vases matched the iconic Pippin Hill farm and vineyards’ hydrangea walkway (more on those beauties later!).

Pippin Hill winery weddings are made for personalization, and these completely different aisle setups are proof that the range of this space is as extensive as a couple’s creativity. Pops of color and plenty of greenery are the most natural, cohesive elements couples often add to the venue.

Indoor Ceremony Options

One of the major perks of Pippin Hill Farm weddings is that there are indoor options as well as outdoor spaces—and they’re just as special. In the case of inclement weather, or if you simply love a cozy indoor ceremony space, the Veranda Terrace keeps guests covered while giving them a clear view of the vineyards. Depending on the time of year, most Virginia wedding venues will propose some sort of contingency plan, and Pippin Hill winery weddings in this terrace area can handle it all.

"The reason why this veranda is as wide as it is, is because I wanted to be sure you could get eight seats across," says owner Lynn Easton. "So you have a really wonderful backup plan if it is inclement."

The 1,800-square-foot space also includes a nearby courtyard, which combines with the terrace for the ultimate indoor-outdoor experience. For the best of both worlds, couples have the option to get married on one of the outdoor lawns, and then direct guests to the stone terrace for cocktail hour.

For an indoor-outdoor option, David and Natalie's wedding featured an opening that revealed the rows of vines growing from the Pippin Hill vineyard. Meanwhile, Mary and Jonathan's celebration included a classic indoor setup, complete with sheer drapery to add  warmth to this more intimate Pippin Hill wedding ceremony—as well as stealing the focus from the floor-to-ceiling window views and putting it back on the couple.

Reception Setups in the Granary

For large indoor events at Pippin Hill Winery, the Granary—a 3,600-square-foot reception space that holds up to 200 guests—is actually where the party happens. Featuring picturesque cupolas and wagon wheel chandeliers, this event space has the feel of an elevated barn wedding venue. Layout options abound in the Granary, which can accommodate a couple of long rectangular tables, a series of round tables, or a combination of the two. Plus, there’s plenty of room for the band or DJ to take the stage! Depending on how and where you want everything set up, the location and orientation of the tables and entertainment stage should be top of mind during the planning process. Make sure your photographer gets this can't-miss shot of your set-up overhead from the getting-ready loft's balcony above. And for couples who need even more space, Pippin Hill farm and vineyards is also home to a tasting room, which holds an extra bar and seating to handle potential overflow.

It also goes without saying that the striking wagon wheel chandelier is as adaptable as the space itself. From wrapping the light fixtures in dangling greenery, like Johanna and Andrew's wedding, or giving the space that extra glow with zig-zagged string lights à la Laura and Patrick's reception, there are so many ways to completely customize the room from floor to ceiling.

Sky-High Ceiling Decor

Is it just us, or do these look like three different rooms? Pippin Hill Farm’s Granary gives you a space that is made for serious transformations. Keep it light and airy—literally—with a hanging floral installation, or go for a moodier, mythical forest-inspired setup. We also love how an arch was brought indoors for Kathryn and Christopher's reception, which was complemented by several uber-elegant chandeliers from the exposed wooden beams above.

Switching up the lighting options is yet another way to tie the entire event together, and meld personal style with the existing decor on-site. Each Pippin Hill wedding had one thing in common: decor that was above and beyond!

Hydrangea Path Couples Portraits

A can’t-miss photo opp at the Pippin Hill farm and vineyards is the hydrangea path. Leading up to the slate blue Granary, this path is perfect for Pippin Hill Farm couples portraits. Though the venue considers early August the “best” time to see these beautiful flowers in full bloom, they’re quite gorgeous year-round. Just look at how they developed into a warmer amber color in Sally and Luke’s and Johanna and Andrew’s portraits.

Technically speaking, Pippin Hill Farm hydrangeas are “limelight hydrangeas,” one of several types of tree hydrangeas. The name is derived from their color, which is white with a little bit of green. Some couples could even opt to match their wedding flowers with the venue’s iconic blooms for a complementary burst of hydrangeas galore. Plus, you can watch your guests coming down the path while you're getting ready in the getting-ready loft in the Granary!

Vineyard Couples Portraits

The Monticello, Virginia area has quickly become a major wine destination. And Pippin Hill winery weddings aren’t complete without a portrait session in or around the property’s rows and rows of growing vines. Sharing a sweet kiss in one of the alleyways or asking for some photos with the vineyard in the background make for truly incredible pictures and special moments with just the couple and their photographer

The Pippin Hill farm and vineyards are situated in such a way that there are views in practically every direction. Couples work with their trusted photographer, and ultimately, these memory-making shots (taken from several Pippin Hill winery weddings) are the result. Plus, this is a special time to carve into the day, when the couple and their photographer scurry off for some of the most intimate solo photos.

Hillside Couples Portraits

The beauty of being amid the Blue Ridge Mountains is you get watercolor-worthy rolling hills as your backdrop Pippin Hill wedding backdrop. Just beyond the vineyard, couples can capture sweet candid moments with a breathtaking hillside landscape in the background.

Pippin Hill Farm offers stunning scenery at every angle, and this is one of the most popular locations for pre- or post-wedding portraits. Twirling, walking, or simply smiling are the only requirements for posing in these Pippin Hill wedding photos. A much-appreciated bonus here is that all of these picturesque places are right on the property, so it’s easy to head over to the ceremony or cocktail hour right after snapping a few shots.

Bridal Party Portrait Locations

For photos with dear friends and family, Pippin Hill Farm provides all the inspiration from all areas on the property. A “plandid” (that’s planned candid photo, of course) shot on the hillside, or a more formal set-up outside of the Granary are two of the top group photo options. We’re also fans of how the earthy greens and crisp blues of these couples’ bridal parties echo the natural colors of a Pippin Hill wedding.

Pippin Hill Farm has made a name for itself as one of the best Virginia wedding venues for both its beauty and versatility. There’s epic views, refined architecture and flexible event spaces, with an emphasis on food and wine. Every Pippin Hill winery wedding is a true farm-to-table experience with organizers who have an eye for seamless hosting. Each event is a genuine collaboration between leaders in the industry, from local winemakers to artists. To truly walk-the-walk, they’ve made a full-service, bespoke package that really makes the property stand out from other Virginia wedding venues. They refuse to let couples planning a Pippin Hill wedding sweat the small stuff, and that’s something we can really get behind.

"We've really got it all," Easton says. "We've got tablecloths, beautiful china, and plateware and cutlery. And all you need to do is bring in a floral design, of which we have incredible talent in Charlottesville, and you are set and ready to go."

In addition to the spaces shown above, the property is also home to a greenhouse, chicken coop, and even an apiary where they produce their own honey.

Once couples have made all of their big decisions, it’s time to say, “Cheers!” to the good times ahead…perhaps with a signature glass of Viognier from the Pippin Hill winery?
