Plenty of weddings use fruit as décor. Shannon wears it. She has a cherry tattoo and makes fruit-themed jewelry, so when she and Justin married at Agriturismo Le Bolli in the hills of Radicondoli, the fruit was less a trend than a self-portrait.
It showed up before anyone arrived. Figs were drawn into the vine border of the invitation, beneath a sketch of the villa itself.
Italian Wedding Papers planned and designed the day, and Nero Fiore Dalle Mie Mani kept the ceremony flowers low along the lawn so nothing stood between the vows and the view. Shannon wore a vintage gown she found on Depop, with a beaded bodice and a full cream skirt, and carried pink orchids with amaranthus hanging below like fruit off a branch. Justin, in a chocolate brown tuxedo, was the branch to all that color.
Dinner was where the harvest came in. Pink tapers in tall glass hurricanes and scalloped, gold-rimmed china kept the long courtyard table polished, while terracotta pots down its center were heavy with strawberries, peaches, pea pods and small golden tomatoes. Yellow orchids were matched to the tomatoes, and even the mussels arrived with orange slices. None of the fruit was just for show. Guests helped themselves as the meal went on, and nothing went to waste.
And at every seat, resting on a sage napkin, was a single cherry. It was the smallest fruit of the night and the only one that was hers.
