A Closer Look
Natalia and Alexandr met at work. They are obstetricians who help people find new meaning in life, and they found their own in each other, a promise to be together no matter what and to understand each other without words. Drugoe Events named the wedding Transformation of Love, rooted in the idea that love, like DNA, is one of a kind and changes over time. The couple are tech-savvy hip-hop fans with a taste for the unconventional, so the planners drew on two inspirations, the medical field and the Transformers films. Both shared the belief that science keeps moving forward, and so do Natalia and Alexandr. The planners swapped the softest parts of a wedding for steel and machinery, and let lighting do the work flowers usually do.
The day started with a sport-chic portrait session in an industrial zone, among warehouses, boom barriers and stacked shipping containers. Natalia wore a black Yohji Yamamoto for Adidas column with three white stripes down one side, a sweeping tulle veil and black opera gloves adorned with sculptural silver rings. Her bouquet looked dipped in silver and trailed fine chains. Alexandr wore a black suit over a white tee with white sneakers from Adidas too, so his three stripes matched hers. The sportswear kept it street, the veil kept it bridal, and the metal all around them hinted at what came next.
By dinner, Natalia had changed into white, a corset laced in white cord over a fitted column skirt. She kept the black opera gloves and added a black scarf, so the morning's black and white simply flipped. Dinner was served in the white rooms of Prime Photostudio at a single table whose reflective top doubled everything on it, from silver chargers and dark metal goblets to the clear acrylic chairs along both sides. Show Time lined the middle with moving-head stage lights, their cables coiled across the surface and their beams shooting up into the trusses. They were the centerpieces, and they made the table look closer to a concert rig than a tablescape. Photos and video played across the wall all through dinner, and Ivan Bednenko worked the room with tech-themed close-up magic. Medicine has an explanation for nearly everything, and the act was a nod to the one thing it doesn't.
The ceremony came after dinner. While guests ate, the team spent three hours building it outdoors so no one would see it ahead of time. Outside, a stage of staging decks and road cases stood in a bank of low fog, lit from below, and an orange truck and a yellow mobile crane were parked beside it. Artyom Chaykovskiy officiated, and when the vows were done, the crane's hook raised a towering Just Married banner high above the stage..
After the ceremony, the couple took blowtorches to their own meringue-topped cake, perched on a stack of road cases, and it was served to close the evening. Every guest received a personal thank-you letter from the couple, and the dancing spilled onto the ceremony site in the haze beside the crane. Drugoe Events had described the couple's love as tempered like steel. By the end of it all, even the cake had been through the fire.
